Information About Study Participation
You are invited to be part of a research study that examines the potential for digital juries to help online communities with difficult decisions about content moderation and speech policies. If you agree to be part of the research study, you will be asked to complete an online survey about different ways to govern online communities. We expect this survey to take about 15 minutes to complete.
This form contains information that will help you decide whether to join the study. Taking part in this research project is voluntary. You do not have to participate and you can stop at any time. Please take time to read this form before deciding whether to take part in this research project.
You must be 18 years old and involved in any of the five social media networks (Twitter, Facebook Groups, Reddit, Discord, StackExchange) to participate in this study.
Purpose of the Study
This study involves further exploration of procedural justice through the use of survey questions framed by a case study based on a social media network. Through analysis of survey responses, we aim to clarify the key factors that contribute to the perceived legitimacy of a decision-making body.
Study Procedures
Our survey assesses the factors that influence procedural justice in user offenses unfolding in online communities and is hosted on Qualtrics.
Benefits
You may learn about different ways to govern your communities.
Risks
We foresee extremely minimal risks with this study. The survey is framed by a case study that may trouble some users, which is why participation is voluntary and a trigger warning is provided at the start of the survey. Additionally, all survey participants are anonymous and no identifiable information is collected.
Protecting Your Information
We are collecting no identifiable information about you and won’t collect your email addresses automatically through Qualtrics.
Compensation
You will be eligible to enter a raffle for a $50 Amazon gift card.
